Gifted and Talented

Gladewater ISD believes all students should experience an academically challenging education that enables them to maximize their potential.

GISD is committed to serving the needs of all students including those identified as Gifted and Talented (GT).  Our students participate in instructional activities designed to give them the opportunity to demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication. Teachers who serve GT students in our district have completed 30 hours of GT Basic Training and each year receive a 6 hour GT Update.  Our second through fifth grade students are served using a pull-out model with students attending GT class on specific days of the school week.

Students in middle school are served in the classroom and take classes designated as “Advanced.”  Teachers design and deliver specific activities to meet the instructional needs of their students.  At the high school GT students participate in advanced classes and/or Dual Credit classes.

Gladewater ISD will accept nominations for the gifted and talented program for students currently enrolled in grades K through 12.  Nominations may be made by anyone interested in a student’s educational welfare.  Nomination and consent for assessment forms are available at Weldon Elementary School, Gladewater Middle School, and Gladewater High School.  Information regarding the screening process can be found in the student handbook.  Please see the campus counselor for further information.  Completed forms must be returned to the counselor’s office by the third Friday in December.

If you have any questions about our GT services, please contact Dr. Cliff Lightfoot at 903.845.6991 or by email at .
